Google has been threatening for ages that they were going to sift through ‘Exact Match Domains’, or EMD, to rid some of the worlds low quality web sites.

This update is not related to the ongoing Panda and Penguin updates, this is a mission to rid the search results of bad quality or low content web sites that survive because of the domain name being an exact match for a search term.

Matt Cutts of Google says “the EMD algo” affects 0.6% of English-US queries “to a noticeable degree”.
